So you've made the decision. It's time to move. And there are TONS of things to do. Tell the post office. Hire movers. Call your Realtor. Get boxes. Order We've Moved postcards to send to friends. Figure out what is going to go to the new house. Create a timeline. And that's just the beginning.
When you're ready to move, the first thing you really get to do is assess if your home is ready for sale. How do you do that? Well, according to Jill Dean Rigsbee of NC Pro Realty Group, the first thing you should do is bring in an experienced professional.
ASSESS THE MESS
Go through everything, and we mean EVERYTHING. If you like to feel a sense of accomplishment, make a list. Walk through each and every room, one-by-one. Here’s a list if it helps:
- Attic
- Crawlspace
- Upstairs Hallway
- Upstairs Linen Closet
- Master Bedroom
- Bedroom 1
- Bedroom 2
- Bedroom 3
- Bedroom 4
- Bonus Room
- Office
- Library/Study
- Media Room
- Rec Room
- Family Room
- Living Room
- Dining Room
- Kitchen
- Basement
- Playroom
While in each room, see what’s on the walls, list the furniture, go through the drawers and closets. You’re looking for 3 things:
- Do we want to bring this item to our new space?
- Is this item too personal and might detract from the sale?
- Does this item make the space look cluttered?
Remember! You’ve made the decision to sell and it’s no longer your space. Allow prospective owners to see what you have loved about the home, not what you’ve done to make it a home. You want them to make it theirs.
And as we said from the beginning, if you need help with this, the professionals at NC Pro Realty Group would be happy to assist you with this part of the process. It’s our goal to not only sell your home, but get you the best possible offer.
