Holiday Thoughts: Time, Family and Presence

The holidays are upon us. And there’s almost a forced feeling of excitement. And the holidays are exciting. It’s just how you look at them. For those with family around, holidays can be a cause for happiness and angst. For those without family around, they can feel the same happiness and angst.
How do you define a good holiday? There are many things and many ways that can be defined as a good holiday. Is it…
- sharing or preparing good food
- spending time with family and/or friends
- giving or receiving gifts
- reflecting on the past
- sharing favorite family stories
- traveling to family or going on vacation
- looking forward to the future
- decorating your home - inside and out
- or even spending time being thankful for everything and everyone.
The holidays are such a special time. They help us to remember important moments from the past. Maybe a special day preparing food with your Grandmother or opening that one special gift that meant the world to you.
Times of reflection can be the best gift we could give ourselves. Life is not only about the big things, but it’s about the little things too. If we don’t appreciate all of the little things, we really miss out on so much.
If you haven’t yet during this holiday season, take a moment and write a list of things that you’re thankful for. When you dig into what is important to you, you might really be surprised at how much you have, what you appreciate and most importantly, how much you are truly blessed.
So, make every moment count as we end this decade. And work on that list through the end of the year Who knows, you might even find yourself being thankful for sitting in holiday traffic because your favorite song might come on the radio and remind you of yet one more special memory.
